My adventure takes place in January 2020 in a country located on the African continent with a star on its flag. Some might confuse it with the Star of David.

This miraculous country filled with ancient architecture, culture, and wildlife was my first so-called “port call” on the only deployment I’ve been on that took place in the 6th Fleet which was Agadir, Morocco.

After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean for two weeks with no radar picture because of reports of a Russian submarine close by (those sneaky bastards), we had finally seen land for the first time.

Excitement on the ship was at an all time high as liberty briefs were being given, plans were made, signing up and paying for tours were taking place.

We moored up to the pier around noon. Danger tags were being hung, maintenance began, trash was being taken off the ship, and NCIS was coming onboard to brief the CO (Commanding Officer) about safety issues.

About two hours into my aloft maintenance, I heard the CO come onto the 1MC (shipwide speaker). He started off by saying that there was bad news. I was expecting that NCIS told our CO that we weren’t permitted to stay out in town overnight which wouldn’t have affected me since I wasn’t planning on it nor was I able to.
